Modern Literacy Development in Childhood and Adolescent Learning

Center for Educational Research, Learning & Innovation (CERLI), Marcelo Storoszczuk Durán

Abstract

There is a connection between literacy and neural learning: handwriting activates brain networks associated with memory, attention and creativity, and these skills influence reading comprehension and written expression. In the digital age, however, the increasing use of technology in classrooms raises questions about how these abilities develop.

This report examines the importance of penmanship and cursive writing in education and their relationship with brain development. It also proposes teaching strategies for integrating handwriting effectively into contemporary school curricula, balancing tradition and digitalisation.
